Supervision services provide customized clinical and fieldwork experiences

Posted May 29, 2024

Occupational therapy and speech-language pathology students can get customized clinical and fieldwork experiences through Simucase’s virtual supervision services.

This offering streamlines the incorporation of Simucase's virtual simulations into academic curricula by managing all aspects of planning, scheduling, and performance evaluation.

For OT/OTA students, Simucase provides a 40-hour Level I fieldwork experience that is supervised by a certified and licensed occupational therapy practitioner. These experiences are adaptable to the program’s requirements and focus on areas such as pediatrics and adolescents, adult rehabilitation, or behavioral health and psychosocial factors.

"The integration of Simucase into our Level I fieldwork curriculum has been transformative. Amidst the challenges of educator shortages and evolving program needs, Simucase offers expansive opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills. A comprehensive range of learning activities covering diverse diagnoses and populations provides the necessary tools for exam preparation. Moreover, the Simucase team’s ongoing support and guidance ensure that both faculty and students feel empowered to make the most of this resource. Their dedication to tailoring the experience to our program’s unique requirements makes Simucase an invaluable educational tool." — Lani Wandell, PPOTD, MOT, OTR/L, Keck Graduate Institute

SLP students, under the guidance of ASHA-certified SLPs, can participate in a virtual clinical practicum that allows students to accumulate 15-50 clinical clock hours in selected topic areas.

Simucase offers established syllabi that cover pediatrics, adults, low-incidence populations, and more; syllabi can also be tailored to address specific educational needs.

Simucase supervision services include creating student debriefing groups, preparing assignments before the supervision period starts, and offering live onboarding sessions to familiarize participants with the platform.

Supervisors also conduct online prebriefing and debriefing sessions to discuss performance, provide feedback, and answer questions.

Additionally, the service provides ongoing student progress and attendance monitoring and comprehensive performance evaluations.

"Lewis University has contracted the Simucase team of clinical supervisors to oversee a simulated practicum experience for our students for the past three years. They are simply amazing. Their clinical educators know how to focus students on the most salient aspects of each client studied. I learn something new every time I tune into these sessions. The Simucase practicum is value-added to our clinical education at Lewis University." — Tina Veale, PhD, CCC-SLP, professor and administrative director of the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program at Lewis University
