Simucase SIMposium: Fostering Excellence - Developing Core Competencies Through Simulation

Please join us for the second annual Simucase SIMposium! This free virtual event exclusively for faculty will take place on September 20, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 pm EDT.
During the event, you’ll get a peek at new Simucase content. You’ll also have the chance to network and to join a small group discussion in a breakout room specifically for your profession.
If you have questions about how simulations can support your curriculum, the SIMposium is the perfect opportunity to get answers! In addition to holding a Q&A session, we’ll have featured faculty guest speakers who will tell you how they use Simucase and how simulations enhance student learning in their programs!
All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. We will also have prizes to give away!

Guest Speakers

Lauren Calandruccio, PhD, CCC-A, is the Louis D. Beaumont University Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She is an ASHA Fellow and has proudly served on the ASHA Journal Boards, the Ear and Hearing Journal Board, and the ASHFoundation Board of Trustees. Dr. Calandruccio is the original codeveloper of Audiolab and since 2020 has been using the software in her undergraduate courses to improve learning and make learning more fun.

Peter Wasiuk, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, is an assistant professor at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, CT, and is the director of the Owl Auditory-Cognitive Science Laboratory. His research interests include exploring the way individuals perceive, comprehend, and remember spoken language heard in adverse listening environments, with current projects focused on adults with autism spectrum disorders. His primary goals as an instructor are to promote engagement and critical thinking via student-centered learning methods, and he has been using Audiolab in his undergraduate courses as a clinical simulation tool since 2022.

Camille Turner, EdD, MSOT, OTR/L, is an assistant professor of occupational therapy and serves as the academic fieldwork coordinator for Belmont University’s MSOT Program, a position she has held full-time since 2013. Prior to that, she provided occupational therapy services at Park Center, a community-based psychosocial clubhouse, and Vanderbilt’s Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Institute, an outpatient clinic for individuals with acquired brain injury. Camille is passionate about occupational therapy services in nontraditional settings and community-based mental health practice, exploring how the integration of instructional technology into occupational therapy education supports the unique needs of distance and hybrid learners and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Carrie Roberts, OTD, OTR/L, is a professor of occupational therapy at Keuka College who has been practicing for over 20 years, with experience in various areas of practice, including the hospital and nursing home, with a greater focus in pediatrics from birth to 21 years. She graduated from Keuka College with a degree in occupational therapy; she also graduated from Chatham University in 2013 with her clinical occupational therapy doctoral degree in which her research focus related to children on the autism spectrum.

Megan Kim, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT, is an assistant professor and admissions committee chair with Nova Southeastern University – Fort Lauderdale’s DPT program. Her primary teaching responsibilities include cardiopulmonary PT and patient management in acute care settings. She is a board-certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist with over a decade of clinical experience in acute care settings and with an emphasis on ICU-level care. Her current research interests include student experiences and outcomes, acute care PT curriculum, and admissions factors.

Rebecca Lulai, MA, CCC-SLP, is the Director of Clinical Programs in Speech-Language Pathology in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences at the University of Minnesota. She has worked in clinical education since 2006 as a clinical supervisor and developed the simulation curriculum used in didactic and clinical education within the MA-SLP program. Prior to joining higher education, Rebecca worked clinically in a variety of settings, including public schools, hospitals, private practice, and outpatient clinics. She holds a license in speech-language pathology from the MN Department of Health and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA.

Atensia Earp Bowen, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and PhD student who has been practicing in the field of social work for over eighteen years. Presently, she is employed with Florida Atlantic University as Interim Field Place Coordinator and Instructor in the College of Social Work and Criminal Justice, as well as a Mental Health First Aid Trainer. She is honored to serve as an ambassador for mental health and wellness through her service with NAMI Palm Beach County as a board member. Atensia is committed to eliminating stigma and educating individuals, families, organizations, and communities on the importance of mental wellness for all.

Clint Johnson, MA, CCC-SLP, CHSE, is an SLP and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. Currently he is the Vice President of Simucase Education where he trains faculty and students to use computer-based simulations successfully. He has over 29 years of experience as an SLP and is the author or co-author of thirty educational products.

Maura Lavelle, MS, OTR/L, CHSE, is the Director of Simulation Development at Simucase where she works with a team of content developers, educators, editors, and producers. Maura is an occupational therapist and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator by training who holds advanced certification in telehealth facilitation and has worked in rehabilitative medicine across various care settings. Her clinical experience spans neurological populations and includes specialization in cutting-edge technologies, robotics, and clinical trials. Maura is a peer reviewer for various occupational therapy and higher education journals and her research interests include the use of technology platforms for learning outcomes.
